I like to write things down.
Lists. Ideas. Messages. Late night rants to my husband... writing helps me to process things.
I’m a Mum of three. I was born in New Zealand but I currently live on a beautiful island in the Pacific (yes, I know NZ is also a beautiful island in the Pacific but for the time being I’ve swapped it for a more tropical version).
I used to be a graphic designer.
I am self-publishing because with my previous experience designing, art directing and running a business, it would be ridiculous not to at least TRY. However it’s definitely possible that I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. Given that I have all of ten minutes left in the day once the kids have gone to bed. I might choke as I take my my first steps as a fledgling author. But that’s OK. I know mistakes don’t automatically mean failure. That’s one of the benefits of approaching 40 right? A few life lessons under the belt?
My goal is to publish children’s books.
I’m really looking forward to taking my time to get this right. Slowly working towards something as I have the time. I reserve the right to change my mind of course, but at this stage, the goal is to publish as many children’s books as I can. That might evolve in the future as my children grow, but it will still involve writing. I’d love to upskill and illustrate my own books at some point but it’s not a priority right now. For the time being, I’m happy to let someone else add their own splash of magic to these stories.
Are you an illustrator?
Feel free to send me a link to your portfolio or page. I’m currently looking for talented creators for a bunch of different manuscripts. All of my books will feel like they belong to a series but I’m not planning on using the same illustrator across the board to achieve that, so I’d love to connect with you if you’re looking for work! I’ve got a lot of ideas that need to be brought to life! At this stage I plan to pay a flat-fee because I cannot guarantee royalties until I know I know what I can sell. So I will accept all the risk on your behalf. But I would prefer to work with illustrators who have prior experience with children’s picture books, at least for the first couple of books.
There won’t be much for you to see on this site until I have something published but please do follow the journey on Instagram. I’d like to keep my followers closely involved in the process because if there is one thing I learnt from my design career, it’s that many minds are always better than one!
